SummaryAdd a Summary
The very loosely biographical story of the Japanese aircraft designer Jiro Horikoshi (1903-1982) who was involved with the Mitsubishi "Zero" fighter. The early 'romance' of aviation is presented as Jiro's dreams of the pioneering aviation designs of Italian Giovanni Caproni (1886-1957).
Overall, this movie could be categorized as a Romantic tragedy.
This animated movie is the fictional story of a young aeronautical engineer in Japan between the wars: his life and love. The main story line, is his struggle to become an engineer and to excel in that profession. There are a few dream sequences in which he meets his hero: a pioneer Italian aeronautical engineer.
He falls in love and eventually marries a young woman that he had helped many years previously. The relationship is very tragic because she has a terminal illness.
There is also tragedy in that his creations are used to destroy instead of help the world.
