In her fifth and final Lineage of Grace novella, renowned Christian writer Rivers tackles the most celebrated woman in Christian history Mary, the mother of Jesus. Using the biblical account of Jesus' life as a framework, Rivers adds such imaginative scenes as Mary watching the young Jesus healing his little sister, Anne, or Mary pondering Jesus' ability to see that there is always enough bread and oil in the larder to keep the family afloat. There are warm mother-son exchanges ("You're so thin!") and personal details ("Jesus had Mary's chin... but no one ever said Jesus had her eyes...").

I loved this book!
I love how this author wrote Mary’s story, from her obedience, to her faith. The blessing she received in being chosen to give birth to the Messiah. Her marriage to Joseph, her being the mother to a perfect child and then the mother to imperfect children.
I love how we get to read about Jesus’ life from Mary’s eyes.
How Mary might have misinterpreted the way that Jesus was going to save the world. How she probably never imagined that Jesus was going to be sacrificed and carry all of our sins.
I also liked reading about how Mary must have struggled with differencing the fact that even though Jesus was her son He was never truly hers. Even though she knew He was the Messiah she didn’t fully understand that He was also Her Lord and God.
And it was heartbreaking for her to see her son crucified but it was also beautiful for her to really give control of her life to Jesus.

This story of Mary the mother of Jesus reveals the conflicts Mary feels because she bore the Son of God. She loves Jesus as the son she bore and feels the normal motherly love and protection for him. She knows Jesus is the Messiah and he has come to save the world from the darkness of sin. She strains to be patient while waiting for this to happen, and then is bewildered and shaken when he is crucified. Her faithfulness and love remain throughout despite immense difficulties until she completely relinquishes control and accepts God's greater plan.

Last book in the series, this is Mary's story. Jesus's mother Mary was a woman who started out with great faith, but then doubted and finally came to faith in her son as her Savior. Rivers puts you in Mary's shoes and follows her story from beginning to end. This was a great series and it enhanced my appreciation for the Biblicial accounts. There is a study in the back if you want to use it as a personal devotion guide, but I just liked reading the stories.
