The Last Victim
A Novel
Large Print - 2012
Dr. Charlotte Stone sees what others do not. A sought-after expert in criminal pathology, Charlie regularly sits face-to-face with madmen. Obsessed with learning what makes human monsters commit terrible crimes, Charlie desires little else from life--no doubt because when she was sixteen, she herself survived a serial killer's bloodbath: A man butchered the family of Charlie's best friend, Holly, then left the girl's body on a seaside boardwalk one week later. Because of the information Charlie gave police, the Boardwalk Killer went underground. She kept to herself her eerie postmortem visions of Holly and her mother. And even years later, knowing her contact with ghosts might undermine her credibility as a psychological expert, Charlie tells no one about the visits she gets from the spirit world. Now all-too-handsome FBI agent Tony Bartoli is telling Charlie that a teenage girl is missing, her family slaughtered. Bartoli suspects that after fifteen years, the Boardwalk Killer--or a sick copycat with his M.O.--is back. Time is running short for an innocent, kidnapped girl, and Bartoli pleads for Charlie's help. This is the one case Charlie shouldn't go near. But she also knows that she may be the one person in the world who can stop this vicious killer. For Charlie--whose good looks disguise a world of hurt, vulnerability, and potent psychic gifts--a frantic hunt for a madman soon becomes a complex test of cunning, passions, and secrets. Aiding Dr. Stone on her quest to catch a madman is a ghostly presence with bad intentions: the fiery spirit of seductive bad boy Michael Garland who refuses to be ignored, though in his cat and mouse game they may both lose their hearts. Dr. Charlotte Stone sees what others do not. And she sees the Boardwalk Killer coming for her.

Dr. Charlotte Stone sees what others do not
A sought-after expert in criminal pathology, Charlie regularly sits face-to-face with madmen. Obsessed with learning what makes human monsters commit terrible crimes, Charlie desires little else from life—no doubt because when she was sixteen, she herself survived a serial killer’s bloodbath: A man butchered the family of Charlie’s best friend, Holly, then left the girl’s body on a seaside boardwalk one week later.

Add a CommentThis is the first book that I have read by this author. I have to say it held my interest from beginning to end. There was a little too much sex with the ghost, Michael and Charlie. I felt as though some of it could have been cut. I think we got the picture. I wanted to read more about the case they were working on. But in the end, I have to say I enjoyed this book. I will be reading the next book in this series.
just a little out there, but enjoyable.
I LOVE her books, and I LOVE this series. I have really enjoyed what's going on between Charlie and Michael!
Always have loved pretty much every book this author writes and I've read them all...but especially love this new different storyline. Can't wait for more!!
Oh my goodness, how nice it is to find a new series! This is a really intense book, somewhat carried away by bold advances of a ghost. Charlie is a serial killer survivor and expert on serial killers. Some blood and gore but the plot is interesting and unusual. I actually ran out to the local library to get the second book in her series, The Last Kiss Goodbye. Way to go Ms. Robards!
Did Karen Robards really write this bull S###? I have to ask because the Karen Robards I have been a fan of for sooooooooooo many years couldn't have pen this ridiculous tale. She must be loosing her touch...and her mind. Terrible, terrible, I found it absolutely torturous to read. I had to skip pages, especially the ones with the dead serial killer and Dr. Charlotte. Is that suppose to be a big turn on? What about the hot FBI guy Tony? he is a good guy...why is he not with Charlotte? I don't know what those 5 bloody readers below is gushing about...If they could call this book interesting, intrigued and excellent, then they won't know when a really good book is steering them right in there face. there are much better choices out there. Enough with the dead serial killer guy. I might read the 3 entry if there is one...but K R would have to get rid of the ghost. there is also a second book in the series (The Last Kiss good bye) well I am telling this series GOODBYE.
I usually love Karen Robard's books but this one was very disappointing. She constantly repeats herself and the subject matter is just silly. I found myself skimming the pages just to finish the book.
Interesting....I found it scary at first because of the subject matter...serial killers...however...it is a fiction and it became interesting as I read on. I look forward to the author's next book about Garland's ghost with Dr. Charlotte Stone.
first time I read from the author, well written. if you liked the show Ghost Whisper, then some of it is like that as well. I am intrigued to know what goes on with Garland and his spirit.
I really enjoyed this book. It surprised me how much humour was in it and that is what made it so good.
Can't wait to read the next book about these characters.
