This was my favourite book in the late 70's when I was a teen, and even though some aspects of the story are dated now (no cell phones, etc) it has withstood the test of time. I re-read this again recently because I was waiting on the movie version on DVD. Lois Duncan remains one of my favourite writers, and all of her books feature strong female protagonists. Down a Dark Hall is a true supernatural thriller, must-read classic!

I'm sure I read this one when I was a teenager but I honestly didn't remember anything about it except for the school's name once I picked it up and started reading. The age of the book shows here (writing a letter to your parents! Having to wait weeks to get it posted to Europe!) but it isn't as glaring as it could be. This gothic novel about an elite boarding school for girls (class of 4) and the bizarre talents and happenings at night is still a great late night read even for a certainly not teenaged me
