"Lonnie Kingman is smack in the middle of a civil suit, and his private investigator just dropped dead of a heart attack. Five years ago David Barney was acquitted of the murder of his rich wife. Kingman is trying to divest Barney of the profit of that murder, and time is running out. Kinsey Millhone agrees to take over Morley Shine's investigation, thinking she'll be tying up loose ends. It comes as a shock when she finds his files in disarray, his informant less than credible, and his witnesses denying ever having spoken with him."--P. [4] of cover.

I didn't think this was one of her good stories. I still like Sue Graftons writing style, but this story seemed to drag along and then fissled out at the end.
