"Tess Delaney makes a living restoring stolen treasures to their rightful owners. People like Annelise Winther, who refuses to sell her long-gone mother's beloved necklace--despite Tess's advice. To Annelise, the jewel's value is in its memories. But Tess's own history is filled with gaps: a father she never met, a mother who spent more time traveling than with her daughter. So Tess is shocked when she discovers the grandfather she never knew is in a coma. And that she has been named in his will to inherit half of Bella Vista, a hundred-acre apple orchard in the magical Sonoma town called Archangel. The rest is willed to Isabel Johansen. A half sister she's never heard of. Against the rich landscape of Bella Vista, Tess begins to discover a world filled with the simple pleasures of food and family, of the warm earth beneath her bare feet. A world where family comes first and the roots of history run deep. A place where falling in love is not only possible, but inevitable. And in a season filled with new experiences, Tess begins to see the truth in something Annelise once told her: if you don't believe memories are worth more than money, then perhaps you've not made the right kind of memories. From one of America's most beloved writers, "The Apple Orchard" is a story of family ties--both old and new--and of the moments that connect our hearts."--Publisher website.

I'm a long-time Wiggs reader. My mom and I have gradually checked off many of her books, and eagerly anticipated anything new of hers. Lately, I've been getting a little disappointed in the repititous plots, but The Apple Orchard (and it's sequel, although that is another review for another day) revived my faith in Wiggs' storytelling abilities.
The Apple Orchard introduces us to the Delaney family. Much of the story centers around Tess, who uncovers family secrets after suddenly inheriting an apple farm from a grandfather she never know-and may never have the chance to meet.
Throughout the novel, Wiggs also tells the story of Tess' grandfather as a young man.
With a passionate romance, family drama, and the journey of Tess to discover who she is and who she wants to be, Wiggs proves that she is one of the great contemporary novelists (when she sets her mind to it).
I also found both Apple Orchard and The Beekeeper's Ball to be lovely audiobooks! I almost enjoyed listening more than reading, and I'm not an audiobook type of gal.

Sweet and fairly predictable, this is a fast and easy read with better than average character development and plot. Kind of like a bowl of chicken noodle soup - you'll enjoy it, it'll fill you up, and you'll feel satisfied afterwards.

Tess Delaney is a modern day artifact and treasure hunter, restoring precious objects to previous owners. When she's named as partial heir to Bella Vista, an apple orchard, she meets family members for the first time. Slowly love and trust develop, making for changes that will last forever.

Good historical fiction and independent career woman who opens herself to new found family. Heartwarming.

Fairly implausible story yet I got caught up in it quickly. It was obvious to me that Tess needed to make changes in her life but I didn't expect the things that did happen. That characters from different places and times all somehow fit together during this story -- that stretched believability too. But I liked the characters, and the story, and was rooting for positive endings for everyone. So the story did work for me, in the end.
