So author sugar coated fictional Roman Civil war.
Otherwise decent portrayal of volunteer multinational professional army.

SO funny! Asterix joining the legion! Obelix wants food (as always) and an Egyptian says funny hieroglyphics! Asterix is always fun!

In Asterix the Legionary, Obelix falls in love with Panacea, but she is already engaged to Tragicomix, a young man who has been taken away by Romans. Asterix and Obelix try to save him, joining the Roman army and making their instructors cry by their silly shenanigans. They end up going to a Roman camp in North Africa where Julius Caesar is planning an attack on Scipio, the Roman's enemy. They get help from a spy (with seafood souffle involved) and learn that Tragicomix has been taken hostage by Scipio. They are scared he is dead, but learn some hostages are taken in for questioning. They find him and return to that "little Gaulish village we know so well." Panacea is happy, she and Tragicomix get married, and (as always) they have a banquet.
