I'm sorry, this was not my cup of tea. The premise of the book - that Theresa would hunt down this man who had written messages to his dead wife, and they would fall in love (though he clearly was not over his dead wife) - just didn't make sense to me. And the fact that Theresa didn't tell him she had read his letters to his wife, but was surprised and hurt when he got angry over it? Yeah, Theresa's not my favorite person.
Nevertheless, I was rooting for them. Both of them had gone through a rough experience, both of them were (mostly) good people, both of them deserved a happy ending. But Nicholas Sparks, apparently, doesn't like happy endings.

I've only read two books by Nicolas Sparks, The Notebook and Message in a Bottle, and am not a fan of how he ended either story. His endings are one of the elements of his writing I strongly dislike. Message in a Bottle was an easy read and overall a captivating story.

this was one of Nicholas Sparks' sadder novels, that took me a while to get into. it turned out to be very excellent, with a surprising ending that i definitely did not anticipate, because of how he usually writes his novels. great book overall.

A wonderful Sparks story EXCEPT for the ending. I didn't think the ending fit with the rest of the story; there seemed no point to it.

A really suprising book! When I started reading the book I was really happy with the story. I was really suprised with the end too. Like always Nicholas Sparks knows how to get a person interesting with his books. Highly recommend it, not just this book but all his books, especially "Dear Jhon", and "A Walk to Remmember"

Maybe it was the mood I was in when I read this, but despite liking previous Nicholas Sparks works (they brought me to tears), this one didn't do anything for me. I found it rather trite and the characters shallow. I didn't enjoy this.

"Message in a Bottle" was a very touching story. I found myself mesmerized whenever I'd read those letters starting off as "My Dearest Catherine". They were filled with such love, sorrow, and passion.
