"Even though Agatha Raisin loathes amateur dramatics, her friend Mrs. Bloxby, the vicar's wife, has persuaded her to support the local pantomime. Stifling a yawn at the production of "Babes in the Woods," Agatha watches the baker playing an ogre strut and threaten on the stage, until a trapdoor opens and the Ogre disappears in an impressive puff of smoke. Only he doesn't re-appear at final curtain. Surely this isn't the way the scene was rehearsed? When it turns out the popular baker has been murdered, Agatha puts her team of private detectives on the case. They soon discover more feuds and temperamental behavior in amateur theatrics than in a professional stage show--and face more and more danger as the team gets too close to the killer" -- from publisher's web site.

Unfortunately, I cannot read "Blood of an Englishman" on my Kindle. The M. C. Beaton Agatha Raisin series [and her Hamish McBeth series] have ALL been available in eBook format for the Kindle. This ONE book, of ALL her books; is an eBook via EPUB only. Not sure why -but disappointing, as I have been a fan of these books, am nearing the end - and this will be the only one I will have missed.

What an absolute hoot! and to think I found this book/series simply by wandering among the shelves at Walker. I'm going to start at the beginning and read all the rest of them. Plus I hear there's a PBS series about Agatha Raisin - I'll have to buy a TV!
Wonderful stories, incredible writing skills, funny & a whodunit to boot!
I am in love with Agatha Raisin!

The Blood of an Englishman --- by --- M.C. Beaton.
M.C. has really gotten under my skin. My fear is that it would be so easy to tear through her novels that within days or perhaps a few weeks, there would be nothing left of her stories of Hamish Macbeth or Agatha Raisin to look forward to. But fortunately M.C. has been quite prolific as a writer and I’ve taken the precaution of rationing out her books to no more than one or two per month. That ought to make them last.
You can tell I’m a fan.
Her characters are quite engaging; the plots keep you guessing --- what’s not to like?

Agatha has not evolved. This book was bad. No more for me.

I really loved the first books in the Agatha Raisin series. I keep reading hoping they will get better. This one, and the last few for that matter, are so boring I can't wait to get to end just so I don't have to read anymore. The characters never grow, I think the author has lost interest in Agatha and frankly I have also. No more Agatha for me.

Priceless! MC Beaton's Agatha at the top of her game.
