If seventeen-year-old Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing standing between straightedge Skylar and art school are three minimum-wage months of summer. Skylar can taste the freedom--that is, until her mother loses her job and everything starts coming apart. Torn between her dreams and the people she loves, Skylar realizes everything she's ever worked for is on the line. Nineteen-year-old Josh Mitchell had a different ticket out of Creek View: the Marines. But after his leg is blown off in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be. What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise--a quirky motel off California's dusty Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and soon, something deeper.

Heather Demetrios’ “I’ll meet you there” is a fiction novel about Skylar, a girl from Creek View. She has had a dream from when she was little about getting out of Creek View. Now, she has an art scholarship in Chicago and is moving there in a month. Just as she is about to leave, her mother loses her job and kicks off a chain of bad things.

Another main character in the book is Josh, an 18 year old kid who went into the army cocky and came out depressed and missing a leg. Skylar and Josh didn’t like each other at the start of the book, then went to friends ( they both work at the Paradise Motel ), then something deeper.

A highlight of mine was when Josh convinced Skylar to throw a bottle out the window at a building as they were driving past it. I think this is the part in the book where Skylar finally breaks out of her shell and lets her guards drop.

An easy read, “I’ll meet you there” is a great book, and I would definitely say that it was one of the better books I’ve read. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to pick up a book and never want to put it down. Five out of five stars.

This is my new favorite book! Such a riveting love story that includes the pressure and struggles of real life. The author makes the characters so relatable and interesting. Skylar is who everyone wants to be, even with her struggles she never gives up and she finds a way to make it through. Josh is the hunky town partyer who gets drunk Friday nights and picks up girls, except when he comes back her has changed and makes the story so heartfelt. I felt like i was Skylar while reading this book! I actually liked this book so much i bought it... I BOUGHT IT. i don't normally like reading. Thank you for this amazing book! If you get the chance, READ THIS BOOK!!

Amazing book! This book is about Skylar, a girl who wants to get out of Creek View and Josh a Marine whose back after losing a leg in war. Josh and Skylar knew each other before Josh went away to war, but his different now thats bis back. They start to form a friendship that leads to move each they really get to know each other. The book is told from both perspectives over a summer before college. I really liked this book cause their love story felt real, they had ups and downs, moments where they didn't think they could pull through but then worked it out and had a happy ending. Rating 4 out of 5 stars. - @Fallenangelhushhush of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

A beautiful book. I'm not sure what happened but the connection I made with this book was unexpected. This is the type of thing I love the most about reading, being surprised by new books and enthralled in new stories you didn't see coming.
Skylar and Josh were realistic characters who are both fighting the pull of this small town they've been born and raised in. I thought Skylar's relationship with her mother and the situation she was in to be heartbreaking. My heart ached when she went to the grocery store and stared at pasta that was $2.79, knowing it wouldn't be enough to feed her mother and her for the rest of the week. Even though she was literally starving she would always say that someone else had it worse. That someone was Josh, who had lost his leg in Afghanistan.
For me Josh was not a likable character, I was put off from the very beginning where he called Chris a "f**." I hate that type of language and was immediately put off by him. The way he gets drunk to solve his problems also was unappealing, but he won me over in the end. I never ended up liking him, but I did end up respecting him.
Overall I would recommend this book to most people. After I was finished reading it, it gave me the same feeling as The Fault in Our Stars, a feeling I didn't think I would feel ever again for a book.

Overwritten and melodramatic.

Immersive. Emotional. Heartfelt. Realistic. Complicated. Messy. Beautiful.

A story of growing up in poverty, relying on art and friendship to get you by, finding a balance of loyalty towards family while still remaining true to yourself, learning to live with yourself and how to cope after coming home from war, and rediscovering old friendships that lead to something more.

This book was truly a hidden gem! I usually don't enjoy romance based novels but this one caught my eye. The whole story revolves around Josh who used to be the local jerk but after coming back from Afghanistan he is a changed man. The love story is perfectly paced along with the story of preparing to go off to university. This book is very relatable and sweet :)

I loved everything about I'll Meet You There. From the start of the book, Skylar is someone you connect with- her longing to get out of her town, and her surprising sarcasm and wit make you want to know her, and her soft emotional side that she tries to hide so well.
Getting to know Josh, was I think my favorite part of the story- he is a solider that has changed due to war and comes back to a town not sure where he fits anymore.
The relationship in this book make it easy to connect and find emotion with the characters- Between Skylar and Josh, Skylar and her best friends, and Marge and both Josh and Skylar. I loved the subtly of the love story in this book, it is a slow progression which made it more enjoyable to read as you get to know more about each character.
Could not put this book down.
