It's been over a decade since I read the original Left Behind series, so I had to do some quick Google research to remember characters and some events. I enjoyed the original saga, especially how it adapted the book of Revelation. My belief (or disbelief) in a literal adaptation to the final book of the Bible like this had nothing to do with my opinion of the series either.

The Rising is the first prequel to the original Left Behind saga. It dives into the birth and childhood of Nicolae Carpathia and the adolescence of Rayford Steele. While I found the background of the two interesting, the book as a whole lacks an overall climax. It's almost like reading extended information about the two rather than weaving together a coherent story. I don't dislike the book, but it doesn't have the excitement of it's predecessors.
