"With their father jailed for sinking a river boat, Noah Underwood and his younger sister, Abbey, must gather evidence that the owner of this floating casino is emptying his bilge tanks into the protected waters around their Florida Keys home. Noah's dad has a little problem with anger control. He tried to stop the Coral Queen casino boat's illegal dumping...by sinking the boat. But his bold protest fizzles: within days the casino is back in business, and Noah's dad is behind bars and out of action. Now Noah is determined to succeed where his father failed. But even though pumping raw sewage into the waters of the Florida Keys is both gross and against the law, turns out it's near impossible to catch the flusher--especially when he's already bamboozled the prosecutors, the local press, and even the Coast Guard. But Noah's got a few allies. There's his little sister, Abbey, an unreformed childhood biter; Lice Peeking, a half-soused ex-mate of the Coral Queen who is willing to testify...for a price; and Shelly, a bighearted bartender with even bigger biceps. Okay, so the odds aren't good. But Noah has an ace up his sleeve--a plan so crazy it just might stop the polluting, save the beaches, and prove to the world that it's the owner of the Coral Queen, and not his dad, who is full of... crud." --Amazon

With his father in jail for trying to protect the environment, Noah feels he must take up where his dad left off. A suspenseful tale, full of Hiaasen’s usual colourful characters and humour.

This is a great book! Carl Hiassen really showed his true love for Florida, and did it well. I have read all 4 of his young adult books: Hoot, Scat, Chomp, and Flush, and they were all really good! Makes you really care about the environment.

This was probably one of the best and funniest books I've read from 2010! Noah and Abbey are lovable and so are all the other characters, including Lice, the old drunk who does do something good in the end.

A cute mystery story - but I wouldn't have listed the ages as "10 & up". I think there is a bit too much unsavoury language for kids that young. I purchased these for my turning-10 neice's birthday, but I'll be returning them to Chapters after reading the library's copies for myself. I'm copying this note to Hiaasen's Hoot also as I felt the same about the age range for that one.

The book "Flush" by Carl Hiaasen is about a boy named Noah who's father got arrested because he sunk a ship called the Coral Queen. he sunk the ship because the boss of the ship has been dumping into the ocean. So, Noah and his little sister, Abbey have been trying to help their father prove that the owner was dumping, so he can get out of jail. They also got the help of a woman named Shelly, who didn't like the boss's actions either. they also got help from a stranger, who turned out to be Noah and Abbey's grandpa. But Noah and Abbey's plan isn't that easy. there were people who were on the boss's side and tried to make sure no one messed with the boss, or their ship. But luckily, in the end, the boss got busted, and Noah's dad got out of jail.
