God is dead. Meet the kids.

When Fat Charlie's dad named something, it stuck. Like calling Fat Charlie "Fat Charlie." Even now, twenty years later, Charlie Nancy can't shake that name, one of the many embarrassing "gifts" his father bestowed -- before he dropped dead on a karaoke stage and ruined Fat Charlie's life.

Mr. Nancy left Fat Charlie things. Things like the tall, good-looking stranger who appears on Charlie's doorstep, who appears to be the brother he never knew. A brother as different from Charlie as night is from day, a brother who's going to show Charlie how to lighten up and have a little fun ... just like Dear Old Dad. And all of a sudden, life starts getting very interesting for Fat Charlie.

Because, you see, Charlie's dad wasn't just any dad. He was Anansi, a trickster god, the spider-god. Anansi is the spirit of rebellion, able to overturn the social order, create wealth out of thin air, and baffle the devil. Some said he could cheat even Death himself.

Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times bestseller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny -- a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

Henry Lenny's voice makes this story so entertaining and engrossing--he was an excellent choice for this audiobook, one that the author himself wanted. It's so good to have that wish become a reality.

I've seen some discussions online about whether or not this is considered a sequel to American Gods. To be frank, I didn't know Anansi Boys had connections to American Gods. It's an excellent standalone, and if you recognize the characters that rollover from American Gods, it's a nice nod to Gaiman's literary universe.

Loved this audio book--narrator Lenny Henry handles a large cast of characters and accents with nary a misstep.

This is by far my favourite audiobook so far. Lenny Henry is an amazing performer. He has a different voice for every character and I was entertained until the very end. Neil Gaiman writes a great book full of imagination and stories within stories are told here with fun characters. Put this on your must listen to list.

Best and one of the funniest audios I have ever heard! Light creative comedy, for every age.

The only negative thing I have to say about this book on audio is that it isn't read by the author. Gaiman has an enchanting voice and those books he narrates are made more spectacular thereby. That aside, Lenny Henry does a fine job and I was drawn into the story immediately.

Melding African folklore (Anansi is the spirit typically embodied as a spider) and the modern world results in the magical/non-magical dichotomy that runs through most of Gaiman's work. It follows "Fat" Charlie (of the human world) and his brother Spider (of the magical) as they come to terms with each other and their father, the infamous Anansi. The story is at turns suspenseful, heart-wrenching, and immensely satisfying. Whether you've read Gaiman before or not this one is sure to please.

If you enjoy the twist on Greek mythology of the Percy Jackson series you should like this story that brings the African Anansi the spider stories a new dimension.

Have to say this one was a bit different for me, but kept me coming back to listen for more!! Loved how everything comes together in the end--even had a couple laugh out loud moments on the last disk. Lenny Henry is an awesome narrator and definitely brings this story to life with his great management of all the different characters--each with a "voice" all their own!! 7 out of 10 for me.

Anansi Boys features some very interesting twists and turns. Some have you cringing and others have you laughing out loud in real-life. Also, some "voices" for Audiobooks are not especially natural or enjoyable to read. The voice of this edition was excellent!

This is the second Gaiman book that I have read (both as audiobooks) and having read the epic "Neverwhere" first, was afraid to set my expectations too high lest I be disappointed. I now feel guilty for ever having doubted this brilliant author.

I understand that Anansi Boys is a spin off from American Gods, which I have yet to read, and as such, the characters and concept were completely new to me. It feels lighter than Neverwhere, but every bit as enchanting, original and witty.Having some background knowledge of Jamaican culture myself, the story was especially appealing to me. Much of this, it must be said, has to be attributed to the unparalled narration of Lenny Henry. I have read many, many audiobooks and never heard such a versatile voice before. If there is an Oscar equivalent for such a thing, I nominate this man for it.

Although I think that I would have enjoyed it every bit as much had I read it as a novel vs listened to it,I highly recommend the audiobook version for interested readers,as I think it makes an excellent story even better
