"An endearing romantic comedy from the beloved best-selling author of The Family Man and The View from Penthouse B At thirty-two, Faith Frankel has returned to her claustro-suburban hometown, where she writes institutional thank-you notes for her alma mater. It's a peaceful life, really, and surely with her recent purchase of a sweet bungalow on Turpentine Lane her life is finally on track. Never mind that her fiancé is off on a crowdfunded cross-country walk, too busy to return her texts (but not too busy to post photos of himself with a different woman in every state. And never mind her witless boss, or a mother who lives too close, or a philandering father who thinks he's Chagall. When she finds some mysterious artifacts in the attic of her new home, she wonders whether anything in her life is as it seems. What good fortune, then, that Faith has found a friend in affable, collegial Nick Franconi, officemate par excellence. Elinor Lipman may well have invented the screwball romantic comedy for our era, and here she is at her sharpest and best. On Turpentine Lane is funny, poignant, and a little bit outrageous."-- Provided by publisher.

Somewhat entertaining. but her intolerance and superior attitude makes her something of a bitch. Only her family seems to meet her approval.

I don't know which author type earns my greater respect--the one who makes every novel in a lengthy series seem alive and reinvigorated or the one whose lengthy list of novels represents fresh characters and story lines each time. "Hats off" to both. In this case, my salute goes to Elinor Lipman, whose "On Turpentine Lane" became her 13th standalone novel in 2017 (in 2019, she added "Good Riddance" to that ever-growing list). If, like me, you need a rear view mirror to see what life is like for a person in her early 30s, the increasing popularity of "rom coms" holds little appeal. By including multiple generations, however, Lipman has created a story that pulls in readers of all ages. Add a quick pace and amusing characters and you have yourself one very good read.

You will be caught up in this cast of characters from the start. An entertaining and humorous read.

Lighthearted romantic comedy. Fun and light read.

Once a favourite of mine, I am starting to actively dislike Elinor Lipman's books. Far from being modern in her approach to romance, I find her curiously 1950's-ish. Her protagonists never actually have any friends or outside interests and seem strangely isolated from all but family, with whom they have ambivalent relationships, and that all-important significant other, from whom they always seem emotionally detached. As long as one gets the ring, that is all that's important - it's impossible to believe in the relationship. After 10 books, it's gotten tiresome.

Elinor Lipman writes smart, funny romance. On Turpentine Lane is one of her best.

A young private school Development administrator buys a cute bungalow on Turpentine Lane, a house with history and not in a good way, she finds. Small town life where everybody knows everybody sets the stage for this page-turning rom-com with a little mystery. Predictable, but a perfect summer read.

Fun, entertaining, easy read.

I smiled all the way through this book by one of my favorite authors. Filled with Lipman's usual appealing characters and sharp insights to romantic situations, you'll enjoy Faith Frankel's struggles with her ramshackle house on Turpentine Lane.

What a fun read - snappy dialogue, all sorts of situations that were interesting but none of which outstayed their welcome, enjoyable characters.
