It opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

A poor addition to the Harry Potter universe. The main characters fail to deliver a compelling performance and the plot does not offer much in the way of intrigue. The movie relies heavily on CGI as the monster designs take precedence over the development of relationships between the main charact... Read More »

I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I revisited “Fantastic Beasts” in anticipation of the release of “The Crimes of Grindlewald”. Having rewatched (forcing myself to not nod off), I hope the sequel has a stronger plot and more compelling characters. Since Eddie Redmayne playing Newt is back, hope he’s had diction classes in the interim, because he was slurring and mumbling throughout Fantastic Beasts. Sorry to see Tina and Queenie are back – boring and brainless. The only strength of the movie was the special effects used to portray truly fantastic creatures. There wasn’t one character I cared about in this movie. The well-structured plot line found in Rowling’s Harry Potter books and movies was totally absent. This movie should technically be able to stand alone without the Harry Potter series, but I am certain that without the interest in the HP franchise behind it, it would have flopped. Of course, (alas) I do plan to watch the sequel.

From the special features, a lot of efforts went into the production details. Unfortunately, the story is rather weak and uninteresting, compared to the Harry Potter series.

Amazing movie for Harry Potter fans (like me). I can't wait for The Crimes of Grindelwald (the sequel to fantastic beasts) coming out in November.

Set before the events of the original Harry Potter series, this film begins with the arrival of magizoologist Newt Scamander in New York. When a magical suitcase filled with strange and exotic beasts from the wizarding world is accidentally opened, Newt takes part in a hunt to recapture all the escaped animals. Meanwhile, an even darker and more sinister plot is about to unfold involving repressed magic and a dangerous monster. Will Newt and his newfound NY friends Tina, Queenie, and Jacob be able to solve the mystery and save the city from disaster and a villain no one expected?

In mid-20s New York, Newt Scamander, the British young activist wizard, arrives in town, holding a mysterious leather suitcase which shelters a wide array of diverse and magical creatures that exist among us. Amid an already fragile equilibrium of secrecy, and the increasing disasters ascribed to the dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, Newt's precious suitcase will be lost--and to make matters worse--several creatures will manage to escape. Before long, this situation will catch Senior Auror Percival Graves' attention who will target Newt, in the background of an invisible, devastating, and utterly unpredictable menace that still wreaks havoc on 5th Avenue. In the end, is there a hidden agenda behind Graves' intentions; moreover, what will happen to the remaining fantastic beasts still loose in the streets? Written by Nick Riganas
