"One Perfect Lie is an emotional thriller and a suburban crime story that will keep you guessing until you turn the very last page. On the surface, it tells the tale of the struggling single mother of a high-school pitcher, a shy kid so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major-league baseball. But the mother fears that she's losing her grip on her son because he's being lured down a darker path by one of his teammates, a secretly disturbed young man from an affluent family, whose excellent grades and fun-loving manner conceal his violent criminal plans. Add a handsome stranger who comes to town and infiltrates the high school, posing as a teacher but with a hidden agenda all his own. The mix becomes combustible when a beloved faculty member turns up dead as a suicide, in circumstances equally consistent with murder. Only then is the true identity of the fake teacher revealed, and the single mother finds herself engaged in a battle for the future, the soul, and the very life of her only son. One Perfect Lie is a riveting and suspenseful family drama, and by the time you close the book, you will realize that nothing was as it seemed at the beginning"-- Provided by publisher.

2019-08-14: Had to return, did not read.

I skimmed over this book. It's all over the place, I found the writing to be juvenile. The story didnt draw me in, it felt immature and just thrown together. The book ends on an unrealistic note. A total snoozefest.

This book is a must read. Read April 2017.

This book seems to be getting mixed reviews. I must say I had a difficult time with the first part but after that I was really hooked. The ending was a bit unrealistic but it worked. I enjoyed the book so if you like Lisa Scottoline, I would give it a chance.

There are three sections to this fast-paced thriller. I had a difficult time with the first section. It was interesting but I was getting frustrated because I didn't know where the story was heading.
The second section completely changed that for me, and I was hooked right through to the great ending. Lisa Scottoline did a fabulous job portraying the mothers and sons involved. The main character, Chris Brennan, was a bit over the top but otherwise a fantastic book.

It starts with the main character sounding like a bad guy & I'm wondering how he's going to get caught.
But then, he turns out to be a good guy.
What happened in the middle ?
The storyline doesn't jive.

Thought Part 1 was intriguing, but by the ending I was disappointed by the far fetched implausibility of how the book ended.

This was a quick read, but I wouldn't spend my time on it if I could have a "do over."
It was truly written for those that have mastered suspension of disbelief when reading.

Do NOT waste your time on this book. I couldn't even finish it.... One of the worst books I have ever read.....

Part One: We meet Chris Brennan, Central Valley HS's newest Government Studies teacher and varsity baseball assistant coach. Except his real name is Curt Abbott and he's interested in which of his students can be turned into a terrorist bomber. (Excellent)
Part Two: We learn who Curt Abbott really is and how he's manipulating CVHS staff and the parents of the boys he has targeted and why. (Interesting)
Part Three: As the bombing countdown has begun, just how far will Chris/Curt go when up against all the alphabet agencies and his own bosses. (Thrilling until the end......then.....not)

If you like True Lies (movie) and Happy Ever After stories then this would bring a better rating. I found the ending so 'off' that I still can't figure out what Ms Scottoline was thinking!

Nail biter until the end.
