Suggest to skip the audio book version. Read the actual book instead. The audio reader makes the common mistake of trying to turn the book into a play, by giving unique accents to all the characters. I don't know if the accents are accurate for 19th century rural England, but they do accomplish one thing: the dialog is very difficult to understand. Might be ok for a romance or suspense novel, but doesn't work for a mystery. Plus it isn't particularly well done. For example In Dan Brown's recent "Origin" as committed to audio book, many of the characters have accents, Spanish, Polish, etc. But the audio dialog remains very easy to understand. As an audio book, this one is a no-go. Not recommended.
