Add a CommentI wanted to like it more than I did, but the whole No Girls Allowed plot line was handled poorly in my opinion. I see it as contributing to the normalization of sexist discrimination, sexist stereotypes, and boy-club group think. If the reason for excluding Amanda wasn't gender fixated, if one or both of Oliver's friends had spoken up in protest at the unfairness, if it hadn't taken wanting refreshment to be forced to tolerate the girls (versus the girls construction skills or ideas), if Lollipop hadn't made the remark about not wanting to do the work of building a fort because it's hot work ..... if, if, if. While the story is creativity inspiring regarding forts and I can read around the problematic parts, this isn't going to be one we check out again.
