"It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video-game store tending to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, hopelessly clutching her cell phone--until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait--and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide."--Dust jacket flap.

The mass shooter theme is the basis of the story. Roberts handles it quite interestingly.

Once again Nora Roberts at her best. I have been reading her for years and can't wait each time for her next book to come out.

Robert's book is well-paced and engaging with enough thrills to satisfy many tastes. If you like watching your characters develop through the story, this is one to check out. The characters are sweet and realistic while the story line is very apropos to our current society.

While I wouldn't say this is my favorite of Nora Roberts' novels, it follows her familiar pattern and was an interesting read. Note: there is a mass shooting at the beginning of the book that is described as it happens, so it could be distressing for some readers. I know I found it uncomfortably realistic at times.

This book was a real page turner and kept my attention right from the beginning. I have read Nora Roberts books but I thought this was by far the best one of her books that I have read. I'll definitely be looking at more of her upcoming books and hope she keeps writing in this style.

I liked the premise but the story was way too long and became boring after awhile. Needed some editing.

Pretty good.

It was difficult to read the parts about the shooting, but I liked that the story didn't really focus on that but rather the aftermath with an interesting turn of events. Definitely recommended!

Reed and Simone survived a mall shooting, along with many others. Many died, including the shooters. They survived but not without emotional scars. Reed took that experience and decided his career. Simone ran but her running helped her find what she was destined to do in life. Unfortunately, one person who was not there but helped, decided to administer her own justice after the death of her brother. That person brings a new level of terror to the survivors. As those deal with the new tragedies, Reed and Simone find each other and a new level of being. This book reeled me in and took my heartstrings, tying them in knots, and the emotional ending, whew! Make sure you have tissue.
