Add a CommentI'm enjoying this whole series and would recommend it. I would classify as "historical fiction" but the non-fiction elements are interesting and work well with the fictional story. The TV series is great too!
Another enjoyable book. Another great adventure. I'm dreading coming to the end of this series. I will miss the great warrior Uhtred. The book has great heroes, great villains, it's historical, exciting fights & battles. Everything you could ask for in a good read. Well done Mr Cornwell.
This is one of the better books of the series. Great plot development, and I felt I knew the the characters in depth.
Two great battles are told, with lots of action and intrigue. I have always felt that the book is only as good as its villain and Cornwell has created a good one here, actually a few good ones.
One thing I love about reading Bernard Cornwell books is that I am always learning, and wanting to learn more. I always have Wikipedia opened up to research what I am reading, and this book was no exception.
Thanks for writing it, such a pleasure to read !
zipread,
Some of the Richard Sharpe series were made into movies and quite good.
Another great book by Bernard Cornwell. Well written and historically accurate.
This story is great i wish there were more similar story like this
Outstanding page turner throughout. Character development and empathy is superior, but Bernard Cornwell is a master storyteller so the novel is most captivating.
True to Cornwell's style, this historical novel set in the days of the ancient kings of pre-England, is full of swash-buckling adventure, chivalry, violence, blood and gore, and more than its fair share of violence --- in short, a great book with lots of action. Someone who reads this as their first exposure to Cornwell will surely track down the rest of his books --- and there are a lot of them. Tell me --- has someone made movies of these books?
