"After the death of his third wife, Jane Seymour, King Henry VIII of England decides to take a new wife, but this time, not for love. "The Boleyn Inheritance" follows three women whose lives are forever changed because of the king's decision, as they must balance precariously in an already shaky Tudor Court. Anne of Cleves is to be married to Henry to form a political alliance, though the rocky relationship she has to the king does not bode well for her or for England. Katherine Howard is the young, beautiful woman who captures Henry's eye, even though he is set to marry Anne. Her spirit runs free and her passions run hot--though her affections may not be returned upon the King. Jane Rochford was married to George Boleyn, and it was her testimony that sent her husband and infamous sister-in-law Anne to their deaths. Throughout the country, her name is known for malice, jealousy, and twisted lust. "The Boleyn Inheritance" is a novel drawn tight as a lute string about three women whose positions brought them wealth, admirations, and power, as well as deceit, betrayal, and terror."--Publisher website.

Summary
Add a SummaryPhilippa Gregory continues her account of life in the court of Henry VIII, this time focusing on the experiences of three women: Anne of Cleves, Jane Boleyn, and Katherine Howard. The novel shows the way in which the marriages of Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard to King Henry intertwine with Jane Boleyn's struggle to redeem herself following the execution of her husband and sister-in-law, Anne and George Boleyn. The story's twists and turns demonstrate the volatility of the court life during the reign of Henry VIII, as well as the precarious position of women as pawns in the ambitions of men.

I absolutely LUV all books by Philippa Gregory!!!!
Brilliant book. My only complaints being it was pretty slow moving and a few chapters could definitely have been eliminated and it wouldn't have made a shred of difference. But overall, brilliant story, fantastic research, amazing writer. Loved it.
This book is AMAZING! couldn't put it down! want to read it again and aagain!
Fantastic!! Make sure to read "The Other Boleyn Girl" first and you'll know everything thats going on. If you like historical fiction, you'll enjoy this.
Gregory's book, one of historical fiction is set in England during the tumultuous time of Henry VIII. The novel is a story about many things, chief among them being fear.
Henry, having disposed of his first three wives, sends for Anne of Cleves, betrothed to him by her manipulating brother. Anne arrives in England neither speaking the local language nor knowledgeable of the local politics.
When she is assaulted by a fat, ugly, flatulent, stinking old man who kisses her fully on the lips she shoves him away, wipes her lips and spits out his spittle. Too bad she didn't know it was really Henry, her future husband, in masques, a man who still saw himself as a handsome young man --- not the corpulent, aged king he had become.
From that moment on Anne's fate has been sealed. And it isn't sealed for the best.
This is a novel about fear: the fear of the accused, the fear of the innocent,
It's about absolutand the power and absolute corruption when the king talks to god and god replies saying whatever the king wishes him to say and the king is not accountable to anyone but his aqpricious self.
And what about suspense?
Who will live, who will die, who will tell on whom, who will meet the executioner? Who will live, who will survive? That is the suspense. And it is there in spades.
A good book to read? You bet? Can't put it down? Ditto.
I find this an Interesting way of setting up the format for this book.
Individual chapters for each character, place and date and proceeding by this method to tell an interesting story from history.
Another fascinating book by Philippa Gregory. This book tells the story of Jane Boleyn, George's wife and sister-in-law to Anne, as well as the unfortunate tale of Anne of Cleves and Kitty Howard, wives number four and five to Henry VIII.
Let's just say it's better than I thought. Much better....It made me want to know more about King Henry and his many wives.
A very good follow-up to the "Other Boleyn Girl" explaining what happens after Anne Boleyn's execution. I found it to be more enjoyable than "The Other Boleyn Girl" (it's more fast-paced) and liked the three different point of views the story is told from. Overall a very good and interesting story that combines history, romance, and deception.
