Adorable! An entrepreneurial farmer rabbit partners with a lazy land-owning bear. When the bear chooses the "tops" of the crops as his share, the rabbit plants root vegetables. And when the bear chooses the "bottoms," rabbit craftily plants broccoli, lettuce and celery. Guess what rabbit plants when the bear claims both the tops and the bottoms? Lovely illustrations made this a Caldecott Honor Book.
I actually got this book back in the '90's from a friend who worked at the publishing company that published it. I thought it to be one of the most clever books I had read in this genre since having my kids and getting into kids books with them.
When my kids were older and had grown out of kids books, I started back to college and was extremely excited when we had to prepare a speech on a kids book. It was a "no Brainer" that I would choose this one.
How clever to think "outside of the box" on this one and have the victims outwit the aggressor and in such a cute manor!
I don't want to give away the book, I will say it involves a lazy bear, witty rabbits and an ending to make even the most uptight person smile!
This is a must, in my book (no pun intended) for ALL ages!
Some beautiful illustrations accompany this silly tale of a clever hare, and a lazy bear. One neat idea is that the book has been oriented differently, and the layout of the pictures actually reflects what's happening.
