I like the Maddox character but there are some disturbing images that turned me off.

A small New England town is in the grip of a corrupt police force. A man who left the town years ago returns and joins this force. All kinds of action results. An extremely good portrayal of how tyranny can exist in secluded locations. - I really enjoyed this book
