Spoliler alert! My 2.5 year ol daughter really liked this initially and we had to read and re-read (i really enjoy it too) BUT she eventually became scared and reluctant to read it. There is an old fashioned lesson at the end "Go to sleep or you get a spanking". A fear of a spanking, and the sound of moth wings on the window which remind Frances of a spanking, are literally the reasons why she falls to sleep! The entire book up to the spanking threat is adorable, and I was not expecting that conclusion. Initially I 'censored' but dad read it out loud in entirety, and I think it explains why my daughter ended up calling it a 'scary' book. Who knows.
I do like the characters, but I will preread all the Frances books first now for bedtime!
