Who doesn't remember the first few lines from this book?! Brave Madeline isn't scared of mice or heights or tigers in the zoo, and an emergency trip to the hospital turns out to be her grandest adventure yet. The illustrations are simple but memorable, still delightful in today's sea of digital art. One of my very favorite books and a great choice for sharing the classics with young children.
This book transports the readers young and old to a slightly different place and time. Yet watching little Madeline makes it familiar because she is like the kid in all of us.
So good, so classic, I named my firstborn after this plucky heroine francaise. At first glance, the art work seems mere gesture -- but what resonating lines they become... Those yellow pages etch into memory ... thousands agree.
