This book is awesome! Very well written and great for all ages.
I recommend that if you have read the book and loved it, don't watch the movie, the movie does NOT follow the book accurately.

I first read Ella Enchanted around age 11, and I literally got up out of bed so I could go and finish reading it because I needed to know how it ended. I have since reread it many times, and I still absolutely love it.

I liked this fairy-tale mostly because of the characters. All the female characters have their own personalities, but none are helpless. The broad range of temperaments including evil, quirky, ordinary, clever and resourceful, make the characters interesting and engaging. The magical elements add some mysterious twists. Very playful and charming!

Astoundingly wonderful! I read this some time ago, and I can still remember how great it was. Gail Levine really put a twist to the old fairy-tale everyone knows. I can't say enough how superb this is. You must read this!

I think this book was great, but maybe for older readers. There were a few mature scenes, and younger kids might find it a bit confusing. However, this book had a lot of positive messages, and I think it is very good.

I love this book and this author! I own this book and that's saying something because I don't buy books easily.

The movie holds no candle to this book. I first read this when I was in elementary school and a few more times later on in life. The great tale hadn't faded, nor its messages dim. A heroine with an unfortunate "blessing" placed upon her, a friend whom happens to be a prince and of course two evil step sisters. Roll it all in a quest just to find the fairy that gave this "blessing," and you have a wonderful story that's classic in its own time.

"From now on all giants should elope," Cyril challenged. "You'll see what the heart loves."

From behind me, Hattie shrilled, "Go to your room this instant. I command you."
I ignored her, but Char pulled away.
"Why won't you marry me? Why not, if you love me?"
"I'm cursed. You wouldn't be safe if I were your wife." What was I saying? I hadn't told anyone about the curse since I was eight. Mother had forbidden it. Had someone told me to?
No one had. Then why....
My thoughts wouldn't settle.

"The meaning, mama is that Ella does whatever she is told.I don't know why, but she does."
" Really?"
Hattie nodded.
" You mean she would have listened to me too?" Olive said.
" Clap your hands three times Ella." Mum Olga commanded. I clutched my skirt and stiffened my hands at my side.
" It will take a moment." Hattie said. "She tries not to. See how red her face is?"
I clapped.

Dear Ella,
Impatience is not usually my weakness. But your letters torment me. They are playful, interesting, thoughtful, and (occasionally) serious. I'm overjoyed to receive them, yet they bring misery. What I really long to know you do not tell: what you feel, although I've given you hints by the score of my regard. You like me. You wouldn't waste time or paper on a being you didn't like. But I think I've loved you since we met at your mother's funeral. I want to be with you forever and beyond, but you write that you are too young to marry or too old or too short or too hungry. You would charm Father, and Mother too. They would be yours completely. What a beautiful bride you'll be, whomever you marry at whatever age. Today I cannot write of Ayortha or my doings or anything. I can only post this and wait. Love (it is such a relief to pen the word!), love, love-- Char
