Mark Harris uses the diverse Best Picture nominees for 1967 – Bonnie and Clyde, Doctor Dolittle, The Graduate, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and In the Heat of the Night – to chronicle the transformation from Old Hollywood to New Hollywood. Crammed with anecdotes and insights, this surprisingly entertaining book also explains how a man once known for innovative comedy routines (Mike Nichols) briefly became the hottest director in Hollywood and how the musical Doctor Dolittle became an expensive mess rather than a Sound of Music-like success. A word of warning, though: this book may cause you to watch several great (and a few not-so-great) films.
