I enjoyed this first book in the Wingfeather Saga once I got past a bit of a slow start and adjusted to the conversational style of the author. Otherwise, it had some good adventure and just enough mystery and intrigue to keep you curious. It's also pretty humorous. I mean, the most fearsome creature in the whole story is a cow with sharp teeth! Looking forward to continuing the story in book 2.

Funny, adventurous, thoughtful, what else could you ask for? Plus, the titles make me laugh every time I see them. The toothy cows of Skree?! Just wish we could have seen more of the toothy cows and Peet. An engaging fantasy with Christian views. Definitely worthwhile.

I HIGHLY recommend the Wingfeather Saga, a four-book series by Andrew Peterson. It is an upper-middle grad to YA fantasy, and has been described as "The Lord of the Rings" meets "The Princess Bride." An animated project is in the works as well! --Bernadette, a Tucson Teen

This was fun. I was engaged and interested in finding out what happened next, yet at the same time it took me an unusually long time to get through it. So, good but not great.

Started it but couldn't get into its whimsical fantasy. I found the goofy names distracting. Maybe I'll return to it someday.

A very fun book. Good imagination. And woven together well. intense, many close escapes and constant danger.

I have now read this book three times! I got the fourth one last summer, and I still haven't read it, so I decided to start the series over again. I still love these books as much as I did when I first read them. I love all three of these books (and I assume I will love #4 as well)! They have strong themes and morals. Very well written! I will read these books over and over again, and I will pass them on to my kids and grandkids too, someday. Excellent read; highly recommended!

The best children's books are also highly enjoyable for the parents who read to them. This series certainly falls into that category. Could likely become another classic like the Narnia series. The second book in the series (North, or be Eaten) goes downhill a bit, with just too many close escapes and constant danger, but the last 2 books are much more balanced, and the ending is very satisfying (not as "tidy" as my younger children would have liked, but probably better for it). I had to buy the last 2 books from Amazon, since the library doesn't have them yet (hopefully rectified soon), but it was definitely worth it. I knew of Andrew Peterson long before I had heard of this Wingfeather Saga, as he is actually a very talented singer-songwriter. A very nice surprise to find that he's also an amazing author. Bet he doesn't have any Olympic gold medals, though.

My friends and I love these books! I love reading fictional adventure books, especially from a Christian perspective. The Wingfeather Saga books are some of the best books I have read! We have been eagerly awaiting for book 4.
