Avery Andrews is settling into her life as a small-town lawyer, and gets her first paying case when Fran French arrives from Atlanta looking for her friend, Neanna. She had gone to Dacus to look into the unsolved murder of her aunt Wenda - and she hasn't been heard from since. Twenty years earlier, Wenda's body was found on a memorial bench in the cemetery, her packed luggage at her feet. The murder was never solved. Now, two decades later, Neanna is found in her car with a bullet hole in her head. The police want to call it a suicide, but Fran insists it's impossible, and convinces Avery to help prove it.
