The further adventures of Charlie, cheerfully disrespectful of almost everything: physics, youth tonics, NASA, the afterlife, and the U.S. president. The Great Glass Elevator is more a collection of ideas than a full story. Basically, it's just Willie Wonka, Charlie and family futzing around in space. But whom would you rather futz around there with?

I can honestly say that I didn’t know that there was a sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I was curious and decided to read it. I admit that it is not as good as the first one, but it is entertaining nonetheless.

Follow Mr. Wonka, Grandpa Joe, Charlie Bucket, and the rest of the family as they end up in space. With the funny style that Dahl is so famous for, Charlie and the others see Vermiscious Knids and help to rescue a spaceship. And when they get back to Earth, they get into even more mischief!

A fun read for all, I would recommend this to anybody that wants to know more about Willy Wonka and little Charlie. Definitely pick this up if you enjoy a touch of aliens or magic, and keep the child inside you alive!

A criminal act no imagination Hollywood didn't film science fiction leaning book sequel that matched the original in crazy situations & eccentric characters when I read as a kid. They could have booked Gene Wilder again, but no... It was the reason I didn't bother watching Charlie & the chocolate factory 1971 & 2005 movie versions. VPL library staff could you reread the book to refresh your collective memory? It's Charlie & the Great Glass Elevator!

A lot of people-judging by the comments-seem to think that this is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

IT IS NOT.

This book is Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, and it is a little known sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. While all the Disney-fied movies are nice, nothing-and I mean NOTHING-can compare to the witty, imaginative writing of Roald Dahl's original books.

Not a lot of people seem to know about this book, as it is seldom mentioned and has not been made into a movie. It is just a wonderful-if not better than-the original and I highly recommend it if you liked the first one.
