I liked this one much much MUCH better than Imriel's trilogy.

I really loved the Kushiel's Legacy books, and one of the main reasons was because of the great characters, so I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to get into this series as much. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Moirin was a strong and sufficiently-compelling character to carry the book. But Bao is no Joscelin. Not even close. This book is lacking the angst that made the earlier books so perfect. Oh, and the kink. That is also sorely missed.

In a wonderful continuation of her previous series, Carey slips forward in time to present a new set of powerful and compelling characters. Drawing on the past and cultures of our own world, she twists the familiar into something new and vibrant. The characters she design are creative and extraordinary while retaining the flaws that allow her readers to connect with them. True to her work, this was a very adult book; the quantity of sex occasionally overwhelms the plot. Still, I loved the emphasis being less on the D'Angelines and more on areas that had only been hinted about before.

I absolutley love Careys writing. When you read her books you can almost picture everything happening right in front of you

Really enjoyed this book. The main character is easy to fall in love with. All the sex does get to be a bit much. Toward the end I felt it was really taking away from the story.
