"They were masters of the darkness, searching through eternity for a mistress of the light...was he a man...or a miracle? Alexandria Houton will sacrifice anything--even her life--to protect her orphaned little brother. But when both encounter unspeakable evil in the swirling San Francisco mists, Alex can only cry to heaven for their deliverance... And out of the darkness swoops Aidan Savage, a golden being more powerful and more mysterious than any other creature of the night. The ageless Carpathian male snatches them from a hideous fate. But is Aidan a miracle...or a monster? Is he Alex's salvation...or her sin? If she surrenders to Aidan's savage, unearthly seduction and gives him the color, the light, the family he craves, will Alex truly save her brother...or sacrifice more than her life?"--P. This was the most boring book of Christine Feehan I have ever read .

I think this book is absolutely terrible. The heroine was one of the worst-written heroines of the Dark series (of the ones I've read). She was all over the place. Her personality also changed from chapter one (when I actually liked her) to someone completely different for the rest of the novel. And that character was whiny and obnoxious. She was the second of the too stupid to live heroines of Christine Feehan's books.

What gives this book one extra star is that Aidan was actually interesting to read. He's typical of Feehan's heroes, but shows to have far more patience in dealing with one of the worst lifemates of the series. (Honestly, he deserves better than to be stuck with Alexandria, in my opinion.)

The story's entertaining enough to keep the reader reading. However, it does show a blind spot in Christine Feehan's writing that unfortunately does return in later books.

I greatly enjoyed Dark Gold mostly because some of the minor characters were a human family that has had descendants that worked for and lived with Aidan Savage for centuries, whom he has loved and protected...and never hunted. or fed on. I thought the Savage brothers, Aidan and Julian, were unique among the Carpathian people in that regard, as most Carpathians didn't seem to have friendships with humans, and the De La Cruz brothers fed on their human employees, expecting them to be willing, and...keep the secrets of the Carpathian people.

This would have to be one of my favorites in the series!
Loved this book, hooked me in and wouldn't let go.

Good read. Could have had more action, but still a good read.
