I am a big fan of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series. After reading this book, I have to say this series is awesome. Lots of action, romance and things that go bump in the night. Bones will stop at nothing to keep Cat safe and continues to do this in this book. Loved it!!

Wow this book was great. I really love a book in the 1st person and, with this one esp, I felt attached to the characters. This one has a great deal of character development as Cat goes through a full roster of emotions.

For me this one is the best of the series so far. The conflict storyline in the first half was compelling for me and the last half was downright exciting every step of the way! Love what happens to all powerful Cat! Fun twist and turns.

Read it too fast (2 days not 4) so I'm so glad there is a #5. Although I think, from skimming some reviews, it won't be as good but that's okay I'll still read it someday to enjoy the characters. There better be a wedding in #5!

My favorite quote that struck me funny and made me laugh-out-loud was when Bones was trying to wake Cat from her bad dream: "What in the hell were you doing to me?" "Trying to wake you," Bones answered crisply. "I cut you, threw water on you, slapped you, and set a lighter to your legs. For future reference, which one of those do you think worked?" You'll only find that kind of humor in a vampire book!

I'll start by saying that I love this series. I grew completely attached to the main characters Cat & Bones in the previous 3 books. And although I couldn't put this book down, I was disappointed in it. The Cat and Bones that I came to know and love in the other books were missing. Instead of being strong and sassy, Cat was grumpy, whiny and drinking too much. She didn't kick much ass like she did in previous books and instead seemed to be mostly hiding from problems and drowning in misery. Bones was ugly and nonsupportive, and generally noncommunicative. The few times they got together in the book didn't make up for all of the bad times. I am hopeful that the next book in the series will bring back the Cat & Bones that I loved from the first 3 books.
I was so upset about Rodney, the closest I cam to crying in this book, it affected me the most.

TITLE: Destined for an Early Grave

AUTHOR: Jeaniene Frost

SUMMARY: Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger.

Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave. - From Publisher

REVIEW: My favorite from the whole series, even with that little tiny ridiculous plot ploy.

I don't like when authors try to 'pull one' on us lovely readers. I need a reason for everything and generally I don't go with plot ploys when there is nothing to back it up; especially when it reeks of 'just decided'. You can't change history just because you've found this amazing idea. In none of the previous books was this whole missing time hinted at. I wish we would've gotten a bit more reaction from Cat in regards to this time lapse that she experienced. I would've believed it a bit more because good authors don't need to do these sorts of things.

Despite that large pot hole I loved this book. I loved how broken Cat and Bones were through out this book. I loved getting to see Bones just shatter. This makes me perhaps a dark and twisty person but who doesn't love character growth and emotion and reading a journey when it feels tangible and raw. When an author can have a couple become a couple in this first book but still keep turmoil and a vulnerability between the two without it seeming silly I'm applauding. Frost continues to let these two grow (both together and separately) but at the same time destroys them a bit as well. That's finesse!

Along with broken characters you get so much time with other secondary characters. In fact, some of my favorite scenes were with Vlad. I would love to read a book on his story. I love how protective he is of Cat but at the same time it's not a romantic emotion. More like a best friend or family member and he doesn't cling to her or any of those annoying traits he's just there.

I'm fairly certain that if you're a fan of this series you won't be disappointed with this book other than the obvious plot ploy, but Frost managed to work it.

A master vampire by the name of Gregor has declared that Cat is not Bones' wife, but rather his from a distant time when she was 16 years old. Her memories had been tampered with, leaving Gregor's claim prior to Bones. This sets up a contest between Bones and Gregor for her hand in the undead world.
I just found Cat so unlikable in this book. She's petty, spiteful, indecisive, petulant and most unforgivable of all stupid. And you actually end up disliking Bones a bit for not telling her to just sod off. The girl just cannot listen nor does she respect that Bones is two thousand years old, he didn't get there without knowing a thing or two. Things that she in her 27 years might not know.

The only things that salvaged this book were the supporting characters. Highlights being Spade and Vlad and I loved Fabian, I hope he is in the next book as well. My heart broke for Rodney, I was so upset as I didn't see that coming.
