"Turning twenty-seven may be terrifying for some, but for Alex, a struggling artist living in the Midwest, it is cataclysmic. Inheriting a huge expanse of land should have made him a rich and happy man; but something about this birthday, his name, and the beautiful woman whose life he just saved, has suddenly made him--and everyone he loves--into a target. A target for extreme and uncompromising violence..."--Dust jacket.

It wasn't the "other" world that has magic, or the fact that they were sending thugs here to our world that I found ridiculous - it was the protagonists absurd feats of daring-do! Taking out 6 big, ARMED, killers - by himself - even though he was unarmed, half-drugged, & half-starved? Really?
I finished it, but I was repeatedly rolling my eyes. If the other books are written like this, I'm not interested.

I love that it is not necessary to read the other books (Richard & Kahlan series) to understand this book.

If you are not up to reading the other books to get caught up, you really don't need to. This is a great place to start.

Pretty good book - has a bit of a science fiction element to it but not enough to scare anyone of. High level of action. Not the best written book I've seen but entertaining throughout and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Great fantasy read for those who are tired of the vampire trend!

This is a sequel to the Sword of Truth series. The book is about the world that Richard creates.

This is a book about a Rahl. Rahl will triumph.

This book felt like an ill-fitting afterthought to the Sword of Truth series. Not bad, but far from compelling and in many ways predictable.

I loved the Sword of Truth series, and I delayed reading this because the jacket made it seem like a new kind of writing for the author.

It is different in that the story is set on Earth, not in a fantasy kingdom, but the links to the SoT series added a great deal of interest to the book for me.

I can't wait for the next book!
