When author Sue Monk Kidd, at midlife, and her daughter Ann, having recently graduated from college, find themselves at one of life's challenging crossroads, sharing their personal exploration and offering mutual support comes naturally. Their quest takes them to Greece and France, where they search for meaning by visiting sacred sites, and they begin to redefine themselves through their shared passion for writing.

If you have no other books to read and nothing else to do, this book is worth reading; certainly more entertaining than a tourist guidebook. SM Kidd has written at least 2 excellent novels (Secret Life of Bees and The Invention of Wings) but you would never know it by this book.

Yes, it's a bit navel-gazing and specifically personal, but it IS a memoir. I chose to look beyond the specifics and focus on the mother-daughter relationship, and the maiden-mother-crone ponderings. Strongly recommended, and I plan on buying this, both for myself to re-read and as gifts for several sets of mothers and daughters.

This book perplexes me abit - the tone is sadder than warranted , I believe . Lighten up , ladies , and you'll have a lovely book ....

A travel memoir written by a mother and daughter, in alternating chapters. But they really only had enough interesting material for a hefty magazine spread, not an entire book.

Having read 'Secret Life of Bees' was expecting far more from this book - but then again this was not fictional tale. Did appreciate mother-daughter relationship development and how it was described.
