first lesson of balls unit of study. introduce balls- What's this? (show weighted ball we use to pass around circle during 'the more we get together song, names portion' - verbal students will answer 'a ball') Introduce the book by showing the snowy scene on the cover and recalling recent snowy weather (if any) 'who remembers when we had snow?' (answers vary) Did anyone make a snowball? Raise a quiet hand, etc. (answers will vary). First page of book is for zero and shows an empty landscape covered in snow. Proceed with book through number 5, taking turns with students to point to items in the book and count items. Proceed to table work dice/count items onto snow scene.
