This had some really great twists, some of which I saw coming and others that I didn’t expect at all. Even the things that I did see coming came about in unexpected ways. Sophie did some dumb things at points, but I think that humanized her more than it made her unlikable. There was definitely a strong "Mean Girls" vibe with Elodie, Anna, and Chaston. I thought the side characters were pretty great, especially Jenna, and the romantic sub-plot was fairly standard but still exciting. Hawkins' world-building was done well with the three primary categories of Prodigium. The ending definitely left us on a cliff-hanger, so I eagerly look forward to reading the sequel.

As soon as I got through the first few chapters I couldn't put it down. I read all three books in less than a week including the companion book School Spirit. I love Sophie's character she is very funny and interesting, her action keep me on edge and make me want more.

Didn't even bother to finish, just skimmed to the end. S.O.S. (same old shit) with so many of these paranormal romance books. Heroine who is supposed to be easy to relate to because she's "plain" and quirky but she's also actually quite weak in character, bitchy girls, jerk guy who is supposed to be swoon-worthy but just isn't, magic playing a relatively small role, so much focus on what people look like and what clothes look like... I can't even count how many descriptions in this book were of hair or outfits. I saw so many positive reviews for this book, so I thought it might pleasantly surprise me. I should have known better. This is a really one-dimensional read.

What a great book about a girl going to magic school! I read all three books in about two days - couldn't put them down.

I think Hex Hall was a great book and I loved it. I read the book really fast.
I don't know why but when I don't like something it is really easy to say why I don't like it, but when I like something it's difficult for me to say why, I just do. Thats why this review was hard for me to write but I finally got somewhat of an explanation for me to say why I liked it.
It could be Sophie, the main character. She is just an enjoyable protagonist. She's caring, open-minded, a good friend, and she might be a little gullible at times, but I mean that is what makes her so great. She isn't a perfect character, she makes mistakes and we get to laugh at her for it. Well sometimes.
Or maybe it was the plot. I will admit at times it was a little predictable, but it was never at a slow pace. And I might have thought I knew what was going on, but then Rachel really threw me for a loop. I'm sure it will leave you craving the next novel (Demonglass ) as much as I am.
Or maybe the writing I really liked who she made it simple and addicting. In the end it is all of it that made me love it so much.

Reread this book for about the third time now, and I still love it and all, but this time I found a note in it from "Sophie and Jenna." I signed it of course! About the book, I don't read many others like it (the ones that involve all sorts of creatures, the ones I read focus on only one kind), but I really like it. I personally find it interesting, humorous, and just an overall good read. I never finished the series when I read Hex Hall probably more than a year ago now, I've only reread it, and a part of Demonglass, but this time I'm determined to get to the end. Anyway, #notesinbooks and if you find this copy, I'm the one who wrote her name in pen!

Ever since reading such a great book at I am Number Four, I haven't quite found many good books; they all seemed rather dull after all the action in that series. However, this book was one of the few books that i actually liked! (Michael Vey was another) This is actually one of my favorite books now and I love it! Sorry about all the fancy language i am in a really weird mood... ;) But I recommend this book to all! P.S. Even though this book doesn't end with the biggest cliffhanger, still read the other books; they're super good! - See more at: http://omaha.bibliocommons.com/item/show/1498349060#sthash.kb0icCRs.dpuf

“The "Holy-crap-that's-a-lot-of-pink" Zone would have been a more accurate description.
I don't know what I was expecting a vampire's room to look like. Maybe lots of black, a bunch of books by Camus...oh, and a sensitive portrait of the only human the vamp had ever loved, who had no doubt died of something beautiful and tragic, thus dooming the vamp to an eternity of moping and sighing romantically.
What can I say? I read a lot of books.
But this room looked like it had been decorated by the unholy lovechild of Barbie and Strawberry Shortcake.”

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her. (From Goodreads)
