In a word: disappointing. Meandering n, long-winded, with multiple scene that go nowhere and have no baring on the overall plot: like the scene in the desert. Doesn't come up again. The scene where Mel Gibson doesn't get into the Cavalry: he gets in later. So why not just have him get in in the first place? After Breaker Morant, this was a real drop in quality. I would love to see this part of history brought to life; this just isn't it. You're better off with something else.In a word: disappointing. Not as riveting or as complex as its, sequel? prequel? (I don't know how Raise the Titanic plays into this) but, still provides a decent suspense and action read that, kinda undermines the already established mythos of Clive Cussler. Bit of lazy writing on how they rectify it, but hey, what can you do? After a snooze fest from The Cutthroat, (and subsequent passing over most of Cussler's more recent works) I have to say, this was a nice break. Glad Justin Scott was not used, as he has shown a sharp drop in quality, and Jack Du Brul still has a bit of flare left. So, its not the grand story of how the biggest Cussler novel of all time came to be, but it still left me feeling, "That was a darn fine read."Not as riveting or as complex as its, sequel? prequel? Does tend to drag, but the last twenty or so pages hit like a sledge hammer from the emotions. This may be the most emotional Cussler book I've ever read. I knew what was coming, but the way it's written, the word choices, the emotional climax really hit home. It's on the same level as Alegiant, and It. I'm not easily swayed by emotions, but this one really moved me.Does tend to drag, but the last twenty or so pages hit like a sledge hammer from the emotions. You really have to suspend you disbelief, and check your brain at the door in order to enjoy this movie. But the music and gags, and especially the car chases and crashes, are so funny and over the top, it literally inspired the owners of a Chicago movie theater to place an actual 1974 Dodge sedan and life size statue of Dan Ackroyd on the roof. True story. But, I LOVE this movie. If you don't, I can see why. Just don't say that in Chicago. You really have to suspend you disbelief, and check your brain at the door in order to enjoy this movie. Great actors from the sixties and seventies, including Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, and Laurence Olivier to name a few, World War Two, and an overflow of Lee Enfeild rifles? HECK YEAH!!!! End result: my butt was numb, my popcorn ran out one hour into this three hour slog, and i was barely awake. Great production values, and the cast is perfect, but it is SO LONG!!! I may come back to this film, and I hope beyond hope it is better the second time around.Great actors from the sixties and seventies, including Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, and Laurence Olivier to name a few, World War Two, and an overflow of Lee Enfeild rifles? I have not seen the original 1941 movie, and after seeing parts of it I don't intend to, but I truly like this movie. Even though it is predictable, and the effects are a bit laughable, but for some odd reason, this is the perfect inconsistency. I just LOVE the gloomy, dreary atmosphere, the dark shadows, and the cast is fun. Yes, Benicio del Toro can't raise his voice to save his life, but he just looks so darn sad, which makes me feel for him when he is bitten. Anthony Hopkins is above this material, but you can tell he is having a friggin ball with this film, he can't stop smiling. Also, Emily Blunt. Enough said. I highly recommend you watch the extended cut, but be careful because this copy is scratched about fifty minutes in.I have not seen the original 1941 movie, and after seeing parts of it I don't intend to, but I truly like this movie. I don't get it. I tried to follow, but it lost me. I tried to scan for clues, but found none. There's something about this film that just doesn't quite click with me. Check it out if you're interested, but I'm leaving this one on the shelf.

What the &$^% did I just watch? There is no mystery, other than what is killing the wasps. yea. This was built up as the ultimate Sherlock Holmes adventure ever: the one that broke him, the one that sent him into retirement because it was too much. What was that mystery? A lonely woman plans to commit suicide and frame her husband for her murder. Holmes persuaded her not to, but she did it anyway. Holmes can't take the emotional repercussions so he retires. This is the guy who doesn't care about people's emotions, goes out of his way to annoy others sometimes, the guy who fought Moriarty, the Hound of the Baskervilles, and Colonel Moran, and uses super awesome kung-fu moves sometimes. And yet a woman committing suicide, a common occurrence, causes him to retire? I think Toby Maguire's reason for giving up Spiderman was stronger. If you want a great Sherlock Holmes mystery, "Move along".What the &$^% did I just watch? There is no mystery, other than what is killing the wasps. yea. Paths of Glory meets A Few Good Men. So engaging, so deep, so beautiful. Every detail is perfected, normally the rifles in these kind of movies stick out like a sore thumb, but here, they are period correct. The drama is so blunt, bleak, and real, it drives the point home. If you like period dramas, courtroom dramas, or even a war drama (thankfully lacking a romantic interest) then you will like this film.Paths of Glory meets A Few Good Men. Christie's most convoluted, and messy book. Multiple characters that only exist to say one line, or just to create more smoke. Solid mystery, but the movie adaptation made the smart move and eliminated characters named Jones, Brown, and Emmett. yeah, seems the "Tom, Dick, Harry" idea was around before The Great Escape. But worth the read. just expect to go "Who's this guy?" more than once.Christie's most convoluted, and messy book. Multiple characters that only exist to say one line, or just to create more smoke. holy #*!@$! that was bad. I watched part of this for a church activity (we were bored) and I don't mind rom coms, but this one made me realize how low the bar can be set. This would have been hilarious as a spoof movie, but I felt my masculinity slipping away with every painful minute. The comedian from Legally Blonde was NOT funny, so one dimensional, as well as the rest of the cast. They all felt bored, unsure, and awkward. Nothing established about them other than they are there, and obnoxious in how serious the main lead takes it. She is WAY TO obsessed with Austen to the point she needs professional help. I was contemplating checking out the films/miniseries based on Austen's works, but now I think I'll stick with King, Cussler, and Christie. Next time we chose to watch a film for an activity, I'll make sure to bring some alternative options. Like The Terminator.holy #*!@$! that was bad. By far the darkest season Murdoch Mysteries have ever done, and that is saying something because Murdoch doesn't normally go that route. Some episodes are great, like The Accident, but others just didn't leave much of an impression. I LOVE Murdoch, but the final episode, to me, was a bit of a bore. Let's just say that the cliff hanger would have been better if they had ended with the previous one. As usual, though, with Murdoch, creative mysteries, colorful characters, real and otherwise, along with the obvious, but sometimes creative jokes. Check it out if you want to see the latest in the saga of Detective William Murdoch.By far the darkest season Murdoch Mysteries have ever done, and that is saying something because Murdoch doesn't normally go that route. The dance numbers and the choreography were top notch, however the story was so cliched, flat, and outdated, it is mind numbing. The characters: forgettable. Story: generic. Lesson: what lesson? The bar scenes, especially the first, have some of the best choreography i have ever seen. But, I like Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Rebecca Ferguson, plus they can all sing. The fact they can sing makes all the difference in the world. I would rather pay to watch unknown actors who can sing, rather than big name actors who can't; or just dub them. Bottom line, if you're looking for a descent movie that doesn't require much thought or isn't very historically accurate, this will serve; but if you're looking for a good story, keep on moving. The dance numbers and the choreography were top notch, however the story was so cliched, flat, and outdated, it is mind numbing. A welcome break to the typical Upstairs Downstairs type genre Titanic stories there are. So engaging, that the last scene is so heart wrenching I had to watch it twice. There are some groan moments: Thomas Andrews isn't portrayed as he really should have been, he was a kind and very detail oriented man, who would have gone crazy and try to fix any structural problems, not a stubborn curmudgeon. Another thing that doesn't interest me, is the Catholics vs. Protestants tension. Why couldn't the two side just kill each other so we wouldn't have to deal with them. Unless you are one of those religions, the whole Vs. angle makes no sense. Other than that, well worth the watch.A welcome break to the typical Upstairs Downstairs type genre Titanic stories there are.
